Van de Roer’s Blue Wall, via 20×200

I’m a big fan of Carlo Van de Roer’s photo of the pool at Astoria Park, Queens. We just painted the walls blue at work, and it’s the only thing I have up; I’ll probably keep it that way. It’s available from 20×200, but is close to selling-out.

The picture gets at the best of what can be done by photographers who are interested in people, but aren’t shooting on the street, per se. Peopled Landscapes! photo.jpg Not Street Street! In fact, Carlo’s “Swim” project has a few more along these lines, as does the “How to Hunt” project from Howalt and Søndergaard.

A lot of blogink’s been spilled on 20×200 already, but I wanted to give a big kudos to the team for executing on a great idea, with a rock-solid techplementation. I’ve been restraining myself, and already have three prints. All smalls, but still.

As a photographer, the only way I can “afford” art is by trading with other artists. 20×200 is as close to a print-trade as the artworld can get. Collectors care deeply about editions and sizes; honestly, I just care about the image (as long as it’s printed well!).

Simply, 20×200 makes it easier for me to live with images I love.
