at any rate, szarkowski's book on him ("the photographer at work")  might be of interest as well, as there doesn't seem to be a ton of resources out there discussing photographers' working methods at length.</description>

		<description>In classically-defined composition practice, a subject's importance is defined by the amount of space it gets on the canvas -- both the space OF the subject and the space SUPPORTING the subject. See Poore (esp the full text) for a fair bit on this topic.

If the subject is a person, you can push it the farthest. The tiniest human figure will always trump the most magnificent landscape or architecture. Your eye can't help it, it's drawn *ZIP* right to the human. We're wired for it by evolution, I'd wager.</description>
